We all need to be a little Soft Core
The new single by friend and guest of Wear Many Hats, Le Keep, has been on repeat throughout this tremulous retrograde.
Saturdays are my favorite. Rain or shine even though I hate the rain, I try to pack it all in by visiting the homies popups. It’s no excuse that I showed face at the Le Keep single + music video release for Soft Core at Global Football HQ in the Pencil Factory, Brooklyn, New York hosted by friend and guest of the show, Robbie Laing of Full Kit as well as Scenes NY and Secret Futebol Club.
When I arrived at Global Football HQ, I saw Robbie Laing out of the corner of my eye. We never met IRL, but having him on Wear Many Hats brought us closer together. I’ve been following Full Kit and their world of carefully selected vintage collaborations with all of my favorite musicians including Oneohtrix Point Never, Sextile, Molchat Doma, Mary Jane Dunphe, Mount Kimbie, and The National. Full Kit and their collaboration with Knickerbocker.
After me and Robbie’s convo by the water cooler of catching up and soft core locker room talk on slowing down and/or picking up the pace, I see Steele getting a tattoo by Alberto Lelli who is currently at Fun City Tattoo. Alberto had a fun flash sheet for the release. Me and Steele caught up in the sweetest way possible, the only way Steele does it as by telling me he listened to our Wear Many Hats episode with Robbi while Lee Cash B2B BisouBizou were spinning bangers in the background.
I can’t stop playing Soft Core by Le Keep on repeat. It has got me through a rough Mercury Retrograde. It has got me through tax season. It reminded me to go soft in a hardcore lifestyle of mine of always hitting the pavement.
I met Steele Kratt in 2018 while my time at Office Coffee, part of Office Magazine in the Canal Street Market. We were always chatting about music, tattoos, sports, and crossing paths on the subway. I always enjoyed chatting with Steele about what he was up to and where he was playing next.
At the time, Steele was in a band called The Britneys and I was attending a few shows here and there in Brooklyn. Steele played drums and I helped out a night of merch boy at their Rough Trade show when Rough Trade was in Brooklyn. Remember that? What took it’s place is Second City, a improvisational comedy troupe, where I take classes at. I’m still not funny.
When The Britneys disbanded, Steele FC came to life where I enjoyed his singles, Cherry and his ‘Here Comes Steele FC’ EP. Steele FC switched to Le Keep and his Spotify bio reads:
Music, Soccer, Design. In that order.
